Description

In As Above, In Bloom, a single sunflower rises through a band of passing clouds, its curved stem and spare leaves anchoring the earthly world as the sky drifts from daylight blue into a starry night. At the flower’s heart, the usual seedbed opens into a universe: black space scattered with stars, a greenish planet, a small moon, and two pink-hued worlds slipping past the rim, as if the sunflower were an eye, or a gate. Hovering transparently above, the silhouette of a woman merges into a tree form, the quiet spirit of growth, memory, and lineage, so that we look through her into the galaxy beyond.

The work links the microcosm to the macrocosm through the sunflower’s famous order. In nature, the disc of a sunflower often arranges its seeds along interlacing spirals whose counts follow consecutive Fibonacci numbers, a living echo of the golden ratio that optimizes light and space. Here, the literal seeds give way to stellar spirals and planetary arcs, so the cosmic scene at the center reads like a continuation of that same geometry, growth patterns scaling from petal to planet. The feminine/tree figure invokes a perennial “Tree of Life,” holding together soil and sky, body and breath, the seen and the unseen. Heaven is not elsewhere; it looks back from the living center of things, where mathematics, nature, and spirit quietly agree.
